&& i don't want to wake up from my dreams...
Sixteen-year-old Lily Evans sat curled up in the window seat of the girl's dormitory one late Saturday night. She was tired, a little lonely, and feeling dreadfully guilty, as usual. Her hair was pulled back into a messy bun and little red wisps flew in every direction. She wore a pair of pale purple pajama shorts and a lacy white tank-top. Her green eyes remained fixed on the promising rain clouds outside. Oh, how she wished for rain. She wanted to run wild in it. She wanted to dance in it and let it wash away every bad part of her that she didn't want. But she'd have to wait and in truth, rain couldn't fix everything.
She tapped her fingernails against the icy cold glass of the window as she waited for any of her friends to make entrance to the girl's dorm. She knew Alice and Serenity would have to come to bed eventually. Frank always insisted on sending Ace back up before ten, some old fashioned idea perhaps? And then Serenity would have to come talk to her eventually. She wanted to confide in her two female friends everything about James at least. Lily liked keeping Sev a bit of a secret, but the girls knew that Lily and Severus Snape had been longtime friends up until last term. Lily had never given them the details of why the friendship ended, but they knew she was hurt by it.
Lily wished she could talk to her other secret friend. Meda was locked away somewhere in the Slytherin commons though and was probably coping with the dreadful Black sisters that very moment. Lily hated Meda's sister, Bellatrix. Narcissa was someone whom Lily could tolerate, but there was something almost maddening about Bella that made Lily dislike her immensely. She avoided her at all costs.
Lily loved Serenity and Alice though. They were like the sisters Petunia gave up being long ago. They were dear friends whom Lily trusted a great deal and loved being around. Serenity and Lily had these ridiculously goofy streaks together. The two of them had a long string of inside jokes that others gawked at them for. Lily had spent part of her summer with Serenity and had enjoyed every second of it. She just wished she had the courage to speak up about Sev. He seemed to her darkest secret and she was hurt most by that very secret. How could she have gotten herself into this situation?
Lily sighed and stopped her petty tapping. She reached over the a bed-side table near the window seat and snatched a book up in her arms. It was Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice. How could something so popular in the muggle world still be her favorite? Lily mused over the things she carried on with her from the muggle world. She still had so many muggle traits, it was surprisingly funny to her. She read a few lines from the book as she waited for her dear friends. Where oh where might Serenity Faywood and Alice Logan be?

Serenity reached the handles of the oak double doors and turned them half-way and sneaked in, closing the doors behind her. As she entered she hummed a made-up tune of her own, she looked around the circular room and found the beds all empty and found someone she has known through out her life sitting right next to the window . Though she wasn't surprised since it was always accompanied by someone at this time of night, and that someone was one of her very best friends named Lily Evans. And maybe one of the only best friends she trusts with all her heart, thought Serenity couldn't admit it but she was slight jealous all at once. A boy actually liked Lily and that boy was one of her dear friends as well, though Serenity doesn't love him she just finds him amusing and he was the so called James Potter. She has always wished for a boy to love her for whom she is, though she never admitted it to anyone before. But back to the topic of Lily in her head she was like a family to her along with Alice of course. To her they were the family that Serenity wished for.
She sat on the edge of her own bed which was right beside the window Lily was next to. "Hey! What's up? What are you reading?" Her mind raced through the simplest of questions but found it better not to say it, since it was a bit pointless and it would sound like she had nothing better to do, so she kept it to her limit. She started brushing her messy and tangled brown hair, though she couldn't really do anything about the messiness of the hair, for some odd reason she was just born like that. She was in her hogwarts uniform on the weekends, and why she never knew, she just felt like it, or so she guesses. She looked out the window as water was already streaming down it, and to think that just a second ago it was perfectly fine. She liked the rain as well as Lily did, she found that their interests are connected and that's what made their friendship begin to grow more and more stronger as they both survived the days together with homework but made it through with silly humor that a person can just walk by randomly and look at them funny to the point where they would both have a glitter in their eyes saying best friends just want to have fun. She looked around the room once more. "Huh, I wonder where Alice is, she is usually here around this time as well. Oh well she's just missing out bits of the fun.." She smiled cheerfully.

Lily looked up from her dream-like state. It had begun raining and that was distraction enough for her. She watched as Serenity sat on her bed and began brushing her hair. Lily got up from her perch on the window seat and sat comfortably on Serenity's bed. She took the brush from her dear friend and began brushing Serenity's wild brown hair. Lily admitted it often, but she loved Serenity's wild hair. It made her look so unique. She smiled as Ren asked typical questions. "Hey Dearie. I'm re-reading Pride and Prejudice for about the hundreth time. I can't get over how wondrously romantic Elizabeth Bennet and Mr. Darcy can be." Lily smiled. She knew Ren would understand her. That was the best part about having best friends, they always understood you.
"I don't know where Acie is. She's probably off with her Lover." Lily teased of their friend. She often joked about Alice Logan and Frank Longbottom. The two had been friends of Lily's for long enough that teasing was definitely in order. There were so many things Lily shared with Serenity and Alice. It was strange, but she just felt comfortable with them there. It was sort of like when Lily hung around with Meda or Remus, she just felt safe and at home. She always had this feeling that Ren kept little tid-bits from her in the same way that she kept Sev from everyone. Lily thought of her position as more of a secret that had to be kept though. What would people say if innocent little Lily Evans secretly loved Severus Snape? It would be social catastrophe. Would Serenity understand anyway? Lily just couldn't say.
"So, where you coming in from? You have that grounds vibe about you." Lily offered conversationally. She loved talking to Ren, things always flowed easily. Lily began playing off some silly scenario in which Serenity had snuck off to be with her secret lover out on the grounds. As long as that secret lover was neither James nor Severus, Lily applauded it. She'd always imagined playing match-maker and setting Ren up with someone cute. Perhaps Alice's brother, Hayden Logan? That would be a sweet match made. Lily could already see this coming. She was secretly plotting to get the two to go out sometime. Lily could be devious when she wanted.

She smiled at the fact she was read one of her all time favourite books."Well, we all know how romantic you can get, Lils. In fact I kind of envy that fact." She said and giggled slightly when she mentioned it. It was true that Lily can act a bit romantic herself, it was just obvious, the dreamy look on her face, the slight giggles she had and plus the little awkward smile, oh and not to mention how she always acted amongst people. She then began to talk again, " I mean honestly some people think your in love.... with love and I know that's true! It's just so..... well obvious. Oh you and your silliness" She started giggling again, not like she could hold the giggles anyways. She thought of Alice almost immediately after Lily has mentioned her. It makes her a bit upset, knowing that fact that that both her well trusted friends have boyfriends and she doesn't but not that it mattered that much to Serenity, or did it? She knew it mattered in her life, she was just scared to admit it to herself and to others, who knew she would be that much of softy.
"Yeah, I just love being outside in the warmth and drawing what I see too, it just feels so... um, relaxing and a little bit refreshing too. The squid is very fun to watch and draw, just a bit challenging though but it turned out to be fine. It's funny that you guess that I was outside and to think you didn't notice me outside, you are very peculiar like that, but I still love you." She smiled more, but sadly she was never good at smiles, they always looked fake, but she trusted her friends to know more then that. And they always did, there were so many things in her head that she could say about Alice and Lily that it was unbelievable but that was one of her own peculiar ways people just had to live with that.

Lily's smile was laughing. "Me, romantic? Really? I always fancied myself more a confused sort of girl rather than a romantic. Don't get me wrong, I understand people. When you throw in emotions such as romance, there's always something so tragic about it all..." Lily's words held far more meaning than she let on to Ren. She was referring to the idea of Sev. Of course, she was border-line obsessing now. She just missed him. And then there was James. James was a sort of romantic sort, but he fit together with Lily in that they were also a practical couple. They didn't fight so much now that they were dating and they did things together. They went out on dates to Hogsmeade any chance they got. They went for walks by the lake nearly every day. Lily sat and drew sketches of James while he wasn't paying attention in class. It was an endearing sort of romance that seemed slightly immature at times. Lily always felt there was something more on the rise though. Perhaps it was her more intuitive side speaking, but she felt romance coming her way. Would it be that tragic romance she was referring of though?
Lily nodded as Serenity told her of her drawing by the lake. She'd spent many an afternoon with just Ren down at their favorite spot drawing. It was odd, both girls enjoyed art and loved to hang out together. Serenity understood Lily so well in that light. They'd drawn things together sometimes as well. It was a fun sort of friendship. "Did the squid take your quill again? Lily mused in remembrance of one day way back in their third year. The two girls had taken to a whole day of drawing on a weekend. Lily had been sitting under a tree, but Ren had moved closer to the edge. The giant squid burst a slimy tentacle from beneath the glassy depths to snatch Serenity's quill right out of her hand. Lily remembered the two of them shrieking in shock at first and then the endless laughter that followed. They had such amusing memories. Now, when ever either girl had drawn near the lake, there were jokes about the squid stealing things. Sometimes, it was a book or a roll of parchment. The two always had a laugh out of it.
"So, my dearest Serenity! I shall find you a lover Darling!" Lily said at random. She always had this feeling that Serenity needed a someone. Someone to love her of course! Lily just had to find her friend a boyfriend. She knew her tone was half-way taunting, but she loved teasing her dearest friends. She knew that they knew that she was only joking. Lily scarcely meant other harm unless she was in an actual dangerous situation. It was in her nature to be kind and compassionate towards others.

One of Serenity's eyebrow was lifted and she herself turned slightly to see Lily's face. She was suprised, "tragic? Lily? Are you referring to something? I trust you of course, so don't get me wrong about that. But really, what are you even talking about?" This confusion amused Serenity slightly but made her wonder deeply. Was Lily hiding something? Did something go wrong between her and James and were they now hiding that fact? She did remember that James and Lily were arguing so often, bit it was kind of easy to tell they were a match. And plus now that they were dating each other it got a bit easier for the both of them. But now, tragic? This amused Serenity, but at the same time it worried her. She doesn't want Lily to have a broken heart. After all who would even want one? Serenity never dated anyone nor had a crush on anyone and she had never had a broken heart, but for sure Serenity knew that it wasn't good to have one. But after all she wouldn't jump to conclusions just yet, and she wouldn't burst her thoughts out of her mouth until she was sure what Lily had talked about.
Serenity smiled sweetly- or at least she tried to, but by the look of Lil's face Serenity was sure that she had remembered those sweet times. It must have been one of their most precious times. And when Lily mentioned about the squid took one of Serenity's important tools of art, she laughed, laughed so much she could've have fell down her bed. It was good times and sighed of joy, "Well the squid did splash water all over, and thanks to him.... or her, I couldn't sit anywhere except for my sweater which is now wet. Im starting to believe that squid is have conflicts with me." She smiled, nothing couldn't stop her from having fun, maybe the slytherins but at least it was amusing for her to make sarcastic remarks on them. Slytherins might have been the most of her problems, now a days they are usually targeting someone to curse, she remembered how one time one of them played a jinx on her and her feet were stuck together, as if a person tied a rope around them and because of them she had to hop her way to the hospital wing. Honestly she had always wondered what caused slytherins to be so awful in her opinion.
Now the next unexpected thing was that, it was as if Lily was reading her mind, or maybe she noticed that she was feeling kind of lonely, either way it still surprised her in a scary way. "Honestly Lils, is that noticeable that I don't have anyone to love? Or am I giving the clues in a way I don't know about? What even made you think about that idea? " She knew that even if Lily didn't know and just teased her, it was too late to rewind the time and laugh along instead of saying she's desperate. But she was so surprised that she just had to ask her. Noticing that, Serenity had pink color in her cheeks. Serenity doesn't know about the color but she can kind of feel that she blushed. She sighed, it was too late to change time anyways, not like she could anyways. Serenity trusted Lily with it, and she knew it would be safe, they were best friends after all right?

A scarlet blush over-whelmed Lily's face at the sound of Serenity's suspicion. How could she have let it slip like that? All of these silly emotions were making Lily feel awfully stupid lately. She looked down at the floor even though she could feel Serenity's eyes wearing down into her. "Uhm, I only meant on a generalized scale Ren. You know, romance can be hard to obtain." Lily shrugged it off, trying to distract Serenity. Her task seemed complete when the squid topic came up. The memories were fun, amusing, light, and conversational.
Once Serenity responded to Lily's "love" remark, she knew she'd dug her own little fictional grave. Great, why'd she have to stir it up like that? She hadn't even really meant to. "No, no, no, no, no! I just meant, I know you hang around James and I and then there's Ace and Franky. It just must be a little hard. I didn't mean anything by it Ren. And sorry, I guess I just perceive things to be what they are a bit too often. I'm just obscurely intuitive that way. I didn't mean to be rude or disrespectful or whatever." Lily tried to fix it. She completely understood where Serenity was coming from. Lily was very good at placing herself in the shoes of other people.
"Here, all I meant by it all was, I want to set you up with someone. Not in a desperate sort of way, but more like a blind date or a set-up type thing. Alice and I can plan it all for you and then we'll just send you out next Hogsmeade weekend. Give is a chance?" Lily smiled a very sweet smile for her dear friend. It was that honest sort of smile that dripped in sincerity and only the most innocent of intentions. Would Serenity buy it?

Star-stricken eyes of dazzling disbelief. That was the look Alice Logan carried around with her as she made her way up the staircase into the Gryffindor girl's dorm. Her gorgeous long, wavy locks were left down and looked slightly mussed from a certain James Potter giving her one of those static head pats just moments earlier. It was just after her departure from her lovely Frank Longbottom. Alice could not place into words how she felt about Frank. She loved him. Whether it was that sort of serious, marriage type love or just a wondrous childhood sweetheart bit, Alice could not say. She could see strange things in their future though. Oh, she loved her abilities in those moments to odd.
She slipped in the door to spot her two dear friends sitting on Serenity's bed. It looked as though Lily was scheming and it had to make her laugh since that was usually Alice's job. She loved her two best friends more than a lot of things in the world. She danced over to sit between her two friends. She slipped her arms around them in a gentle hug. "Why, if it isn't my two favorite gals?" Alice smiled one of those mysterious smiles. They were her specialty. She fit them into everyday use despite them not being even remotely necessary.
Alice ran a graceful looking hand through her long brown locks and sighed. She wore a pair of plain, dark denim jeans, a chocolate brown top with a lacy neckline, and a pair of brown ballet flats. She let go of her two darlings and sat cross-legged on Ren's bed, making herself right at home. Alice never thought about the idea of being in someone else's personal space. She merely invaded and hoped they didn't mind.

Once Serenity heard the words of Lily's little speech, at once she had become to calm down. And to think she was over reacting, she should have known Lily better then that. But now it came to her, was she just a bit overprotective? She didn't mind that fact though, the fact that she misjudged Lily bothered her. It felt as if her hear didn't know which way to go, it felt as if it wanted to rise up into heaven at the mention that nothing went wrong between Lily and James. Though at the same time it was drooping down because she judged at Lily's own words far too quickly. Because of that Serenity wasn't sure which emotion she was feeling at the moment, it just all felt blank to her. Serenity just focused on thought though, nothing upset Lily, that made Serenity most relieved. And so she became happy once again.
After hearing another little speech, it definitely made her heart fall hard. This time she knew she just overreacted and she was sure of it, on the way Lily had been acting. "Sorry? You didn't even do anything. Im sorry, I say everything too fast, I should have been wiser and asked what you meant. Im just not really used to all that love thoughts and things like that," Serenity's smile faded a little as she said this, she hadn't meant to make such a fuss over one silly little topic, it came all too fast for her. Another two sentences has been made by Lily, just this time a short question walked along with it. "A blind date? Sounds interesting, i'll give it a shot then." Her smile reappeared again so Lily was sure that Serenity was fine with it. But another thought came up, who would this boy be? Would he actually love her, no boy even had a thought of wether to love her or not, that was for sure. It made her heart beat and somehow her heart had rised up like the rising sun. "Lils, can you at least give me a tiny clue on who he is? It would distract me from all the thoughts im having right now. Plus I am a little curious."
She faced the door as she heard it open, and watched as she sat down beside Serenity and Lily. "There you are, so any wedding ring yet," she teased, for some reason it was just fun to tease Alice a little with Frank, and to make the side more brighter, it made their friendship grow into a more of a giant beanstalk then it already was. But she envied those Alice and Frank, their love was so strong it was impossible for it to be smashed, same goes to Lily and James too. She wondered how her own love life would be like as well. "We're glad that your here, it feels more... nicer when the three of us are together, don't you two agree?" That was indeed how she felt like when the three of them were joined it made her heart lift more each time.

"No need to say sorry Serenity. I should have made myself more clear." Lils offered lightly. She felt slightly bad for making Serenity feel so uncomfortable. She really should have checked her words more carefully before speaking. At least Serenity had moved on to a more interesting subject now. Lily was filled with scheming ideas for blind date set-ups. She already had about ten people in mind other than Hayden if he didn't want to do it. She couldn't wait.
"Ha, a clue as to who it is? Well Ren, I can't. See, I was thinking of holding auditions for a boy." Lily teased. She knew that this would go over awfully. That kind of thing was ridiculously silly. She amused herself with the thought though just because she wanted to see her friend's reaction. Then, Lily's mind began to wander as Alice entered the room. She leaned over to give her dear friend a half-hug and smile. Her mind was everywhere else though...
What would Alice and Serenity say if they found out about her and Severus being friends again? What would they say about the other feelings Lily had for Sev? What would happen next? How was Lily supposed to make those feelings go away? She knew she belonged with James. It was how things were supposed to be. Lily knew and fully understood that. Would she spend the rest of her days wondering about what could have been though? She didn't want to be one of those girls prancing into the future with regrets weighing down her every moment and her life spiraling in every direction. She wanted clarity and understanding so desperately. What would Lily do?

Jumping like popcorn at that thought while blushing as red as cherries. She looked at the window to hide her face, but the reflection of it wasn't at Serenity's side at all. Though her mind was still safe and nobody could read it right now, auditions? For a boy? It made her feel a bit panicky, but then again Lily liked to tease a lot. She calmed down and let out a sigh. And then turned from the window and asked, "and you are.... joking, Lils?"
Serenity rested her head on Alice's shoulder, hoping she wouldn't mind. Meanwhile looked out at the window again. Rain had attached to the window as if they were tears and the window were crying. She bit her lip in thought. There were a lot of mysteries in her life and one of them had never left her mind since she was only a toddler. Where was the rest of her family, were they alive or dead? Why didn't her mom ever talk about them. It had never left her mind.
She lifted her head, yawing and stretching her arms and legs. She took her wand from the pocket of her jeans and waved it a bit above her white shirt with frills at the bottom. "Accio artbook, heh, forgot it and left it in the lake." She stared at floor, blinking as though she was imagining something. The floor was what looked like splattered with water. She looked around the room to investigate and her art book lay on her side-table, wet. Serenity sighed, now all of her precious memories were wet and probably smudged.

Alice scoffed at the wedding ring comment and then moved on to other matters. She loved this conversation. It became more and more thrilling every second. Obviously, she and Lily were setting Serenity up and it would all be one very grand game! She patted Ren's head as she rested it on Acie's shoulder. "Of course she's joking Serenity! I do all the set-ups in this friendship. I mean really, look at Lily' tastes! She likes boys like James. You don't want a James on your hands now, do you? I'll find someone much prettier and just all around better Dearie. No worries. I'll put specific qualifications on my auditions. It'll be grand. I'm sure we'll find you a love in time for the first ball at least!" Alice had gone off now. It was all a land of scheming, plotting, and planning to her. She was about to enter a world far more intriguing than Hogwarts!
Alice giggled to herself. Unlike Lily, she was willing to go extreme to find Serenity's special someone. It was something she happened to be rather good at. See, Acie had played match-maker before and watched it turn out just lovely. She saw this as her own personal parade of amusement. She'd be able to post up notices around school. She'd get to hit the gossip boards and wire the information into the very fiber of Hogwarts' social dynamics. Her mind could weave through so many things at once, it really was chaotic. Ace was already getting 'visions' of possibilities for Serenity's match. This would be the time of her life!
"Aw, that's a shame. I love your art Renity." Ace sighed as she spied the art book on the table. Alice got herself up and took a dancing stride towards the table. She did a silent incantation and the book looked good as new. "I don't know if it looks the same inside, but I did try." She shrugged and took her place on the bed once more. She felt rather tired suddenly. Maybe Frank had kept her out a tad too late. Aw, how she loved Frank Longbottom! He was her true love nad Alice knew it!

Serenity had laughed at Alice's speech, and laughed a bit more after hearing her giggle. But calmed down in an instant, Alice sure amused her at this point, as much as Alice amused herself with the little date talk. Seeing that Alice had just tried to help with the little non-dry situation, she smiled. Serenity would give up her life just to save Lily and Alice, that was how much of a true friend they are to her. Serenity stood and pranced a little to where her now dry art book lay. She opened a random page from the middle of it and sighed of relief. Oh what nice friends she had, she knew she must do something for them, somehow, for she was forever grateful. First they are helping with the little lonely problem and now they helped with her art book. And there was so much more that they helped with in the past that she could never forget. And if she did, she knew she wasn't good enough.
"Oh thank you so much guys... or should I say girls?" She gave a slight laugh at her own tiny joke and proceeded, "You two honestly don't know how much you two mean to me do you?" She smiled and got them into a group hug and sat back down on her comfy bed beside Alice. She had a lot on her mind this evening, but she just couldn't stop thinking about who in Hogwarts would be her love. She constantly wondered if it was even normal to think about it this much, she never thought about a certain topic for so long in one part of a day, so you couldn't say it was normal for Serenity. Serenity kept it secretive from them though, she didn't really want to tell them what they were thinking and if she had to at least not right now. She continued onto other things in her mind, more important things, like her friends. She wanted to do something for them, something very special that they will never forget. All she wanted to do is to show them how much important they are to her.
