&& what if i said i love you? && what if i said it comes with boundaries...
"How to make a moment perfect? How to make it seem so sincere?" Lily mused aloud. She waited against the brick wall as the snow piled around her chocolate brown booted feet. She wore a chocolate brown pea-coat over jeans and a cream colored knit sweater. Her hair was down and loosely hanging about her shoulders. Her hands were dawned with cream colored mittens and a matching scarf hung about her neck. She kicked at the snow casually, letting her mind wander.
How to tell him? Lily had been pondering just that all afternoon. All she wanted was to say that she and Severus were friends again. How much damage could that cause? She also wanted to ask him to the ball. Like she needed to ask! They were going out. She still thought she should though, just in case.
What if James was confused? He saw less of Lily those days. She happened to see more of Severus. Only, James didn't know that. She'd really dug her own damn grave this time, hadn't she? Lily ran a hand through her long red hair and stared into the snow. She found the sudden desire to crawl beneath the frozen blanket and hide there until everything resolved itself. How could she do this without hurting the two young men she loved?

James stared at his reflection, a small smile hugged his lips, and soon he left the room, taking the single red rose with him, and soon he headed down the stairs, and outside.
Lily was on his mind, then again, when wasn't she? With the ball coming up, he wanted to ask Lily to go with him, and unbeknownst to him, Lily was plagued with the same thought.
James quietly shuffled through the snow, one hand in his pants pocket, the other holding the rose. James had thought long and hard last evening, and finally decided that he'd ask her. He'd ask her to wear his championship Quiddich pin. Perhaps it was stupid, but it was something that really meant a lot to him.
He had nearly walked by her, but then stopped short. Almost instantly, he was nervous.
"Lily..Hey... I.." He blinked. "Oh.." He held the rose out to her. It was the sort with the tiny tube of water, at the base. "My mom once told me that roses meant a lot depending on their color, and to give a red rose to a girl in Winter, when they don't bloom. Um, She said that Red proses were for passion and love, and that passion was a fire emotion." He stammered over his words a bit. "It's said that the red rose given to a girl in the Winter, would melt even the most cold of hearts, not that you're cold hearted, but.. Uh.." A blush hinted his cheeks.
James lowered his head. He'd never had this much trouble talking to a girl. His free hand came out of his pocket, and extended the small box along with the rose. "Lily.. I'd be honored if you'd wear my pin.."

She watched his casual shuffle through the snow and suddenly, the thoughts of her other dear friend vanished. How could she love two people? And yet, she was meant for James somehow. They fit together too easily. They made sense and had meaning. That was how things were supposed to be. Weren't they?
"James..." She started at the sound of her name. As though some force of magnetism were pulling her closer, she moved towards him ever so subtly. Her fingertips tingled in her mittens, wishing to reach out and hold his hand. And then, his perfectly though-out speech met her ears in a beautiful clash of happiness. Sure, he'd stuttered over half his words, but she loved every last one of them and their delivery.
"Consider my heart melted." She smiled the most delicate of smiles. It was the sort of expression a woman wore only whilst basking in a moment of sheer contentment. It was so perfect. How could she compare other moments to that? And then the pin...
"James, I would love to wear your pin." She reached her hand to his face ever so gently, her mitten resting on his cheek. She leaned forward to kiss him softly on the lips. It was an act of beauty, of compassion, of love. She felt her feet slip into the snow a tiny bit. [b"Look, I really am melting."
She laughed as she pulled away and looked down at her boots. She wished that moment could drag on for ages.[/blockquote][/blockquote]

James couldn't help but be drawn to the beautiful red head, whose green eyes seemed to stare directly into his soul. He bit into his bottom lip as she whispered his name. While he tried to keep up appearances, he couldn't show her the fake side of him, the side of him that wished simply to be adored. She got Him. Real, unaffected.
So many things went through his head, thoughts of rejection being right on top. And then came her words, and his fears melted away.
She moved closer to him, her touch to his cheek, nearly had him dropping the box, though his fingers curled around the box, his free hand came to slid up and through the silken locks of her cinnamon strands, his lips parting softly, only offering a deeper kiss to the one she offered.
As she moved back a step, he helped her to steady on her feet, before he stepped closer once more, the pin pulling from the box, and gently, he pinned it to the collar of her sweater, and wrapped his arms around her tightly, lightly kissing her forehead.
"So long as you're meltin' into me, Lily.." He murmured gently. Then pulled back from her a bit, still holding his arms around her body. "So, I was meaning to ask you something else.. I'd really like it if you'd accompany me to the ball..."

A shiver ran through her body as he carefully placed the pin on her sweater. Lily's expression was one of sheer contentment. How could she not be thankful for a moment such as that? Her heart raced in her chest and she knew, this was the sort of thing she, Alice, and Serenity would giggle about for the rest of the night. How could Lily have been concerned before, about James caring if she was friends with Severus? Now it all seemed foolish, childish. It was less important.
Lily was a sucker for that old fashioned type of affection. A tale about roses and wearing her boyfriend's pin. These were the types of things that Lily had dreamed about. She was perfect with him, they just went together. How many other words could ever describe how well they fit?
"Would I like to accompany you to the ball?" She questioned back with a teasing sort of smile now. "James, I was about to ask you the same thing." She spoke up before he could get the wrong impression or possibly think she would turn him down. "I'd love to go with you. I can't wait." She offered, feeling that hint of a blush touch her cheeks. She really was excited for the event now. Alice would have to help her find a dress. She was going with James Potter to the Yule Ball. Could life get any better?
