Narcissa Druella Black
OOC;; Alias: Lindsey
Age: 16
Year of RPing: 4 years
How You Found Marauding Mysteries: Proboard support
Role-Play Sample: “Hold still, will you?” The raven haired girl hissed, tightening her grip on her sister’s shoulder. Wincing as her sister continued to tighten the corset of her ornate gown, the young girl desperately grasped onto one of the wooden posts of her bed. With every tug of the strings, she could hear Bellatrix’s pointless rants growing louder. It was something she had become accustomed to. And fortunately, she had taught herself to tune out the harsh mumbling of her older sister. Once the last string had been laced, Narcissa let out a deep sigh of relief. Turning to Bella, she nodded her head in thanks. Not waiting around to hear the girl’s response, she dashed away, eager to find a mirror.
Walking into one of their sitting rooms, her blue eyes lit up when she saw her reflection. The emerald green costume she donned was positively flawless. Nothing less would have been suitable for the youngest of the Black girls. Grinning widely, she had to force herself to retain her composure as the excitement started to build up inside of her. It was certainly going to be a night to remember, and she definitely wanted to look and act her best. And of course, her parents would expect all three of their esteemed daughters to mind their manners, at all costs.
The time had come, as it did every year, for Druella Black’s annual Masquerade Ball. Revered wizards and witches would be flocking to the manor once again, for an evening of dancing, dining, and more likely than not, drama. Every year since the tradition had been sparked, friends and family anticipated the winter ball. Druella, despite her cold demeanor, was an admirable hostess. She knew how to satisfy her guests, and she certainly brought that to her advantage. And after many lectures and the like, her family was able to play a part in her scheme.
The moment that the first guests started down the gravel path to their doorstep, the three Black sisters were called down into the entry hall. Standing at the base of the stairway, Druella and Cygnus linked arms, waiting for their children to join them. Bellatrix brushed past her two younger siblings, keen on getting to her parent’s side as quickly as possible. The other two were somewhat less eager to sprint down the stairs, though they did quicken their pace, hearing their father’s booming voice calling up towards them. Reaching the ground floor, the three girls stood in line for a last minute inspection. Narcissa, standing between her two sisters, noticed the drastic difference in their attitudes towards the approaching gala.
Bella, being the oldest, had been at this a bit longer than the other two. But that didn’t give her much of an advantage, as Narcissa had always been better at entertaining a crowd. Her social skills were somewhat superior to the ones that Bellatrix possessed. And what for Andromeda? The less than enthusiastic expression upon her face proved that she was dreading the idea of spending the evening with a house-full of power hungry wizards. Noticing his daughter’s slouching, Cygnus quickly scolded her, and as Narcissa glanced over, she saw the girl shoot up straight. Appearances were everything, and the slightest bit of disarray could cause raised eyebrows.
The sound of the wrought iron knocker rapping against the wooden door caused Narcissa to jump, startled by the interruption. As Bellatrix grabbed her hand, pulling her away, she couldn’t help but glance over her shoulder to see who the first guest was. Their parents had instructed them to refrain from cluttering around the door, to keep from appearing as if they had nothing better to do. Rather than do that, the three girls moved off into one of the hallways. Every few moments, Bella would peer around the door frame to admire the guests, causing Narcissa to roll her eyes in annoyance. “Must you do that, Bella?” She whispered, shaking her head.
As expected, Bellatrix ignored her question. Turning around as Andromeda skulked away, she sighed. They were both so impossible, it seemed. Even so, she kept a noble grin upon her face as she emerged into the dining hall. Seeing the intricately masked faces, she narrowed her eyes, hoping to recognize the people around the room. Almost instantly, a dark figure rushed towards them, beckoning for Bellatrix to join him in a dance. It wasn’t hard to recognize the young man as Rodolphus Lestrange, even behind the black and silver mask he wore to cover his face. Seeing the reluctant expression upon her older sister’s face, she nudged her in the side. Not wanting to wait for an answer, Rodolphus clutched Bella’s hand, and dragged her away from their cluster.
Giggling to herself as she watched the two awkwardly dance amongst the other couples, she shook her head. It was almost entertaining to witness. Looking around, she spotted her parents on opposite sides of the hall, both schmoozing away. They never stopped trying to influence their peers into one thing or another. Perhaps that was the hidden beauty behind them. Watching as Andromeda stood gawkily amongst their guests, Narcissa waved her hand, motioning for her sister to move out into the crowd. Unfortunately, it didn’t appear as if that would happen anytime soon. However, she wasn’t going to let her sister’s foul mood ruin her evening. There was plenty else she could do.
The fourth year Slytherin watched the amusement that was taking place around her. It was almost humorous, seeing the guests trying to determine whose face was hidden under the mask they wore. Even more entertaining was seeing one of her classmates dragging Andromeda out onto the floor. Covering her mouth, Narcissa’s face turned a bright crimson red as she snorted with laughter. Had her parents heard that, she would certainly have been scolded, severely. Grinning, she scanned the room for a familiar face.
Basics;;
Full Name: Narcissa Druella Black Nickname: Cissy or Cissa Age: 16 Year: Sixth House: Slytherin Gender: Female Blood Status: Pureblood Martial Status: Single Orientation: Straight Occupation: Student
Personality;; Likes: Schmoozing with the big-wigs of the Wizarding world, attending galas, spending time with her ‘friends’, and fashion. She is also quite fond of, in secret, licorice snaps. When she finds the time she does enjoy visiting Hogsmeade for a cup of tea at Madam Puddifoot’s. And since the war started brewing, she has taken a liking for firewhiskey. Narcissa is quite taken with fresh cut flowers, and does like to place them around her room. Fashionable and up to date décor is something else she likes. When it comes to school, she enjoys Potions, hanging out in the Slytherin common room, wandering around the grounds, and spending time with Lucius.
Dislikes: Blood traitors, Muggles, Mudbloods, and on occasion, her sister. She loathes hearing her mother rant on about these things though. In her opinion, you can only dabble on a certain topic for so long before it gets old. To this day, she isn’t at all fond of Divinations, and finds it completely useless. Though it’s a necessary evil, she thinks that Transfigurations is a bit droll. Professor Dumbledore isn’t high in her favor either. Gryffindors and Hufflepuffs are intolerable. (Ravenclaws, as long as they’re pureblood, they can be tolerated.) She can’t stand being forced to going to the school Quidditch matches. House unity is something that she doesn’t support. Double Potions, Fizzing Whizzbees, and blood pops are on the list of things she doesn’t like.
Fears: More than anything, she fears losing her fortune and influence. Considering that it means so much to her, and it says a lot about her as a person, her fear is somewhat reasonable.
Hobbies: She enjoys walking through the garden at the Black manor. As an actual hobby, Narcissa likes studying Wizarding fashions and interior design.
Goals: She aspires to become one of the most prominent and well-to-do witches in the Wizarding world.
General Personality Description: It is no secret that Narcissa has the same arrogant nature of her older sister. Though she is somewhat more reserved than Bellatrix, she isn't afraid to speak her mind when the time comes. Having come from a well respected family, she believes in being dignified and well poised. Most of what you see of her is a facade, as she is a relatively unhappy person. Before the battle between the Death Eaters and the Order sparked though, things were quite different.
Having been taught from a young age the importance of manners and the like, she’s never outwardly defied one of her respected elders. It is also not like her to take unnecessary risks in order to accomplish something. She would much rather have someone else go to that extent for her. However, that is not to say that she’s a lazy young woman. In fact, she’s quite the opposite. She tries to keep busy, the best she can. Whether it’s to keep her thoughts away from the war, or to simply amuse herself is uncertain.
Like the rest of her family (excluding Andromeda, of course.), she’s always been interested in the Dark Arts. This is most likely one of the main reasons for her allegiance to the Dark Lord. Spending time with Death Eaters certainly dampens her moods, but Narcissa generally tries to remain in good spirits. Though her sense of humor is lacking, she makes up for it with other attributes. She can be a very interesting person, and knows how to hold up her end of a conversation. Her parents taught her to be well versed in certain topics, so that she would be prepared if the subject ever came up in a discussion. That has certainly come in handy during some events.
When speaking with her peers, she has been known to be very sarcastic. This has gotten her in trouble on several occasions, but that hasn’t kept her from continuing on with using these derisive comments. Though some people may consider it as her way of dealing with her insecurities, that is far from being the case. Rather, she has been taught from a young age that she is superior to others. And therefore, her comments are only her own observations and notions.
Appearance;; Celebrity: Scarlett Johansson Picture:
Appearance Description: Standing at about 5'7, Narcissa is reasonably tall. Unlike her sisters, she has striking light blonde hair. It falls down to her mid-back, and is generally kept down. Whenever it suits her, she ties it up in a tight bun to keep it out of her eyes. She has a very proud look about her, and it shows in the way she carries herself. More often than not, a smirk is painted across her pale face. Cissy doesn't smile very often; unless of course, it's at the misfortune of others.
Her eyes are an icy blue shade, which accents well with her skin tone and hair color. Narcissa has an ivory complexion, which is quite different than the rest of her family, who all have very harsh skin tones. Like her mother, she has a very well defined jaw line. Her high cheek bones serve as an adequate frame for her face. Though her appearance gives off a delicate and fragile vibe, her personality reflects otherwise.
History;; Family: Mother: Druella Rosier Father: Cygnus Black Siblings: Bellatrix and Andromeda Pets: A family owl Relatives: Sirius and Regulus Black Birthplace: Devonshire History:
Born to the Noble House of Black, Narcissa had a generally decent childhood. She was expected to attend the galas put on by her mother, and wined and dined with some of the most respected wizards and witches in London. The youngest of three girls (Bellatrix and Andromeda being the eldest), she had the luxury of learning from their faults and mistakes. Though they were all expected to act in a certain manner, she was often able to get away with more because of her age. However, when she was old enough to go to Hogwarts, that changed.
In the summer of 1966, Narcissa was accepted into Hogwarts school of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Both Bellatrix and Andromeda had already been accepted and sorted in the years before her. Just like the others, she was sorted into Slytherin. With the help of Bella, she was able to work her way up the ladder, becoming much respected throughout the Slytherin house. Of course, being a Black certainly helped in that matter.
It wasn't until her third year that she had a real conversation with Lucius Malfoy. At first, she found him to be incredibly arrogant, and extremely intriguing. And as the year went by, she realized that the persona he put on was actually quite genuine. He was truly shallow, and cold. But that certainly didn't cause her to shy away from him. In fact, it drew her closer to the young man. When she returned to Hogwarts for her fourth year, the two started dating.
Her grades were always sufficient, though never extraordinary. She was far too concerned with appearances to truly concentrate on her school work. She did do well in Potions and Defense Against the Dark Arts however, and generally received high marks in those classes. Though she was never a teacher's 'pet,' she was also never truly disliked by any of her educators.
When it came time to decide where her allegiance stood, she, like the rest of her family, supported the Dark Lord. The only member of her immediate family that chose to defy him was her sister, Andromeda. Of course, in her decision to befriend a Mudblood, she wasn't exactly in the families good graces at the time anyway. Though she never became a Death Eater, and never sported a Dark Mark, she never openly faltered from her decision.
Andromeda’s decision to betray their family was a heavy blow to Narcissa. She had always tried to become close to her older sister. But Andromeda’s choice wasn’t only an insult to the Black name, but to Cissy herself. Certainly the older girl had to have some bit of respect for their family? Her actions said otherwise though. Though the two girls had always had a decent relationship, Narcissa cut off all ties that she had with her sister after that. She wasn’t going to be a part of the girl’s life, not any more.
From what Narcissa could see, Bellatrix didn’t appear to be surprised by her sister’s actions. Perhaps she knew all along that Andromeda would betray them. Maybe Cissy had been naïve to it the entire time. Though she couldn’t say for sure, the one thing that was certain was that she was hurt by her sister’s actions. Their mother was the most disgusted though. She was completely repulsed by the idea of her daughter, a Black, associating with a Mudblood. But what could they do? They had no say in what Andromeda did; not now that she had renounced her old ways.
It was then that the youngest of the Black girls became increasingly hateful towards Mudbloods and Half-bloods at Hogwarts. Sure, she had never liked them. She had loathed them her entire life, but she had been pushed far past her boiling point. Because of that filthy Ted Tonks, she had lost her sister. There was no going back now. Even though she couldn’t help what her sister had done, she continued to take her anger out at those pathetic wizards and witches. Even to her friends, she became very cold during her fifth year at Hogwarts.
