“Breath,” she whispered to herself and watched people pass by with their faces hidden with colorful masks. Serenity was right beside the entrance of the great hall just calming herself down from all the excitement. Serenity glanced at the great hall, it was beautifully decorated and she loved it. Serenity took another deep breath and made her way in. Truthfully she hated balls and she can’t dance, the only thing that forced her to go was her two best friends Alice and Lily, if it wasn’t for their begging she would be in the common room reading a book while people are dancing. The only thing Serenity liked when it came to balls were the music that filled the room, she especially loved the classical music that came on. One more step and I will be in the great hall, she thought to herself while made the step she was waiting for. The Yule ball was breath-taking she wished she could’ve took her half filled art book and draw the bright and colorful room.
Her eyes looked through the two holes of her blue butterfly mask at the crystal chandelier above her, breathtaking, Serenity thought again. She looked at the people around her once more, she wished she wasn’t at this place right now, not when she thought she wasn’t as pretty as the girls in it. Her fingers twirled a strand of her curled hair, for once her hair didn’t look messy instead her hair was held in a barrette. All of a sudden she felt as if her blue and silver choker with a crystal hanging from it felt tight around her neck but figured she was just probably nervous. This was only the second time she wore a dress, she never bought a dress she had never though she would actually be participating in another dance. This dress was picked by Alice and it was too beautiful for Serenity to wear it, in her opinion it was more for models. The dress was satin blue with a silver design on it and it was slightly puffy at the bottom. There was nothing in her mind right now except for, why, oh why did Alice have to choose this dress.
Seeing there is nothing for her to do at the moment she took a seat on of the chairs and found herself bored immediately. Serenity wondered where Lily and Alice were in this huge room but didn’t even bother trying looking around for them. Mostly she wondered where Hayden was right now, her heart thumped faster just at the thought. Every single day, every single hour she had thought of him. How could she forget about him?

&& what a beautiful girl, standing center stage in a beautiful world...
It was early. Hayden wore a classic looking tux, not caring for wizard's robes that night. He knew the route he'd take in life and the tux happened to suit his personality much more generously. So, he gave the muggles a run for their money and wore what was unfitting for such an event as this. Hayden knew Serenity hated going to dances or any formal event in which she might trip over her own feet. He'd asked her to come, but knew she might not. Had she found out what he was, she might not have come at all. Or maybe she'd chosen someone else. It would've killed Hayden to see her with someone else so, he'd momentarily turned off his tabs on her from most of the other young men in her life.
And then he spotted her. He couldn't see anything else in the room but her perfect face. He couldn't hear anything else except the sound of her breathing, her heart beating. He took in the sensational scent of her blood pulsing through her veins. He watched as she stood ever so patiently, beside the punch bowl. He couldn't think. He couldn't process anything else happening around him. Before a moment could pass, he'd raced with inhuman speed to her side. He'd made sure she wouldn't notice, of course.
"Miss Faywood. You look breath-taking. May I ask for this dance?" He held out a hand to her, desperately wishing she'd take it. He opened his mind just a sliver. He let the room overwhelm his thoughts until they centered in on each mind. He couldn't find her date anywhere. Did this mean he had his chance? Did this mean she simply hadn't figured him out yet? How he desired to hear her thoughts for just a moment.

Suddenly her heart was racing against the seconds passing by and the crowd around her became a blur instead of the boy asking her for a dance. What should Serenity do? Should she run away from the offer? Or should she just take the risk of breaking a leg and take the offer. Then again how can she dance anyways when her feet felt like jelly and were shaking? No, she couldn’t do anything except stare at Hayden. Ok Serenity think, what should you do in a situation like this? Say no or say yes? That’s the only thing I can think of right. No would probably mean disappointing Hayden and feel guilty, yes would mean tripping a lot and make Hayden happy, geez this thought is scarier then I imagined. So she decided to make Hayden happy and breaking a leg, its better then having the guilt feeling last forever while she could cure a broken leg with a wave of a wand.
Hayden, consider yourself lucky, seriously…. She thought as she said “yes” to his question and took his hand. “You’re not bad yourself, no you’re more then handsome..” She said truthfully. “Keep in mind, im bad at dancing, REALLY bad at dancing.” Serenity said it in a serious tone of voice and yet there was hint of worry in it. All the same she still wore a slight smile.

Hayden chuckled at her remarks upon dancing and made a mental not to thank Alice into talking Ren into this entire ordeal. "I'll protect you." He whispered, ever so gently, in her ear as her leaned in closer and then moved back again. He felt the euphoric warmth radiating between the point of contact existing between them. It was like a shock of electricity, her touch. And yet, that electric shock was addictive. Hayden knew he could live off that shock forever. That was exactly what his kind was enlisted to do, live forever. He would end his soulless existence the moment Serenity died though, Hayden knew he wouldn't force himself to survive otherwise.
"It's all right Serenity. Dancing isn't nearly as bad as you think. I'll guide you along." He smiled down at her as he pulled her lightly towards the dance floor. He pulled her a little closer once they were standing amongst the other dancers and then he moved into a very slow dance. He knew not to frighten her with anything fast-paced.
"How are you enjoying the ball so far?" He whispered in her ear once more. It seemed just intimate enough to keep her attention. He wished to stay there with her for ages. He and Serenity, they could live and love each other forever. Hayden was certain of that much.

&& wishing upon your sweet little stars won't do any good now doll-face...
There's something dark about reality. There's this certain effect life can throw at you. To me, it feels like the world has turned a shade more saturated. Things don't feel right anymore. They won't, not ever again. One moment can change you. My one moment came and went. Now, I'm stuck trying to pick up the pieces to this mess of change. How can I tell Remus what happened? He will never forgive me for our joint mistake. This is our mistake and it's about to hit us both very very hard. Forgive me for I fear what will happen next. -Kyndrie
Young, beautiful, dark, mysterious. Kyndrick Laurent stood in the very center of the room. Her ball date had not shown up yet, but she didn't mind. Most of the boys in school would quickly offer her a dance. There was only one boy whom she wished to dance with that night though. She couldn't spot Remus Lupin in the crowd for her life though. Where was he? What was he thinking? Did he catch on to her ever so subtle changes yet? Did he realize the mistake they'd made? Was he drawing the same conclusions she had? Would he soon come to know the things Kyndrick knew so harshly?
She wore a midnight blue dress. It was strapless and had that sort of bell look about the bottom. It only came to just above her knees. Luckily, she'd not yet put on much weight and the dress left her looking stunning. Her makeup was done in that dark manner with mascara and eyeliner playing a key role. She wore a pair of heels that made her taller than usual. Her hair was half pulled up and left in this messy sort of wrap. Her expression was curious, mysterious, reckless, and careless. She had this radiance about her that left her glowing. Maybe it was the idea that she had a secret that night. Secret changed people and Kyndrick Carmilla Laurent was one of those people.
She tilted her chin up, letting her eyes scan the crowd. Where was that head of messy brown hair? Where was the boy who had literally changed her inside and out? She couldn't find Remus for the life of her. More importantly, how was she supposed to get the slip away from her current date should he ever show up? Her head swam with thoughts. She needed out of this mess but didn't know what to do.
She gently folded the scribbled napkin into tiny squares and then placed it with the little money she brought along with her to events like this, in her bra. It was all one very subtle movement, she'd done it often enough. Kyndrick fit this sort of charismatic scene well and had to dress to impress.

The whole time she just looked at him, trusting him in this. Her feet somehow made their way into the whole dance and it didn’t even feel like she was controlling them herself. Never had she thought dancing was this easy, and the last time she danced… it felt horrible for her and Serenity messed up billions of times. Now dancing was as easy as a wave of a wand. “Dancing is alright after all, hard to imagine that I would even say this,” she had answered to Hayden’s question. And then she continued on to the conversation, “If I didn’t know any better I would think you’re hypnotizing me into this.”
Serenity watched his every move like a curious child watching her mom or dad do something amazing. Her mind was filled with thoughts and mostly it was all about Hayden. Serenity wanted to get into a conversation with him as they danced, “the ball is pretty isn’t it? The teachers outdone themselves this time with a little help of magic of course.” Serenity smiled up at him, curious of what his response would be. This was probably a moment she would never forget in her life, the type of moment she would talk all about with her friends and afterwards have good dreams about it when sleeping. No, she wanted this moment to last forever, for time to stop ticking. Her eyes finally looked away from Hayden and looked at the dancers around them, and it looked like they were enjoying their time as well.
“So what are you planning on doing during the winter holiday? Are you going home or staying here?” She was even more curious on this and was hoping he would stay, but of course she would understand if he wanted to visit his adoptive parents. But as for herself she wanted to stay at Hogwarts and roam around the castle looking for more secret passages and go to hogsmeade to do some major shopping.

He wanted to hold onto just that moment forever. To stay frozen in time, holding the one he loved, guiding her through a little task like dancing. He wanted to smile down at her with just the right amount of charm and care as the world around them slipped away. He wanted to let everything else stay vanished, stay forgotten. It was the only way they would have been able to make this work. It was the only way to appease them both, protect them both, heal them both. To remain trapped in that moment would have been Hayden's only request.
"I knew you'd be able to do it." He laughed softly in response to her dancing. She really was beautiful. The color brought out her skin tones, her eyes, her hair. She looked as though maybe she was dazzling him. He wanted her to never stop dazzling him. How could she stop? She did it effortlessly, as far as Hayden could tell.
"Hm, winter holiday? I'll go home to my family. You should come along. You could stay with Alice. Although I would surely love your company quite a bit." He made the offer without thinking about the consequences. Well, Serenity had come over before, so had Lily. The only problematic factor was that they ate and slept whilst Hayden and his family did not. Alice was exceptionally good at covering things up though. She'd master such an art to keep social acquaintances appeased. She had more desire for social relationships than Hayden had. That was a key difference in their personalities.

“I was actually planning to stay here, but if you and Alice are there then so am I.” She accepted the offer, after all it was always a pleasure to be joining his family during the holidays and they always had so much fun. The only thing that killed her in there was Rosalie. Apart from that she just loved playing games and such with them and at night she would usually have a little chat with Lily and Alice and then reading her collection of muggle books before going to sleep. And his parents were so nice to her. This winter holiday she would expect a lot of snowball fights going on and Serenity didn’t really participate in it since she really didn’t like the snow.
Serenity looked up at the enchanted ceiling, it was a starry night, it’s beautiful, she thought, it would be even more beautiful if it was snowing but then we’d all freeze now wouldn’t we, unless the teachers cast some type of illusion, she added to her thoughts. “Im guessing you’ve danced a whole bunch of times before?” Serenity wouldn’t be surprised if he did, not one bit at all. Serenity closed her eyes, she was listening to the music, it was pretty.
She opened her eyes again and tried to figure out what he was thinking, she didn’t know his thoughts and he didn’t know hers, that’s fair. “I’d love to know what you are thinking right now….if you would tell me.” She looked at him with more curiosity then ever, her eyes were wide as if he was telling her an exciting story.

Where was she? What was she doing? Was she coming? Was she already there?
The many thoughts that had been going though Remus' mind at the moment were all centered and focused on one thing, or rather one person. Kyndrick Laurent. Remus stepped into the great hall, his dress robes a midnight black, his hair flattened down and somehow looking miraculously kept for once. The shadows underneath his eyes were still there however, giving Remus the appearance of one with insomnia. This was of course, the aftermath of the full moon's appearance not two weeks ago. Remus would barely get enough sleep by the time his little 'episodes' finished, and just as he was about to begin a regular sleeping pattern, it would be time for another one.
Scanning the ballroom, his eyes carried over the little grouplings of people and dancing couples, coming to rest on one person in particular. He would have recognized her from a million miles away. Kyndrick Laurent was right there, standing in the centre of the dance floor. His heart made a strange stuttering sound, and he made his way towards her. "Kyndrick," He said in his quiet voice, once he had managed to pass through the crowd and stand in front of her. "You look," He began, not seeming to find the approprate words to best fit her. He felt much too lucky. Ridiculously lucky in fact. To have a date like her. To even so much as know this girl. Remus felt as though he had no right to want this. He didn't deserve her. And most importantly, she didn't deserve him. He was a menis to society. An outcast. She deserved so much better.
"Amazing" He breathed, finally settling on a word. He still felt it was a downcast on her appearance. But he could not think of enough words in his vocabulary.

&& i just wanna let it all go and feel beautiful <3 dress
harmony stood at the top of the staircase; going down would mean she was oficially 'going' to the yule ball. she stood near the door, shying away from the lights that pointed towards each staircase and looked for kavick; her date for the night. she didn't see him yet, maybe he wasn't here. harmony's gaze surveyed around the room, taking in the gorgeous room. it was decorated spectaularly, the teachers had outdone themselves. then there was the overhead scenery, harmony could see the night sky. stars twinkled above the small crowd; soon to grow large.
she looked sideways at a reflection of herself in a tall pot with unasurance. the long, silky black dress seemed to fit her perfectly, looking chic and elegant. she had let her hair fade a bit so only a small portion of orange was left at the edges, and it was pulled into a curled bun the draped itself atop her head. it was a masquerade ball, so harmony held a delicate silver mask over her eyes and blinked slowly. she wore a locket that her mother had given her and fingered it absentmindedly. im scared... harmony thought to herself, but knew it was fatuous, because she should feel confident.
harmony straightened, and made her way slowly and carefully down the marble staircase, descending each step with care as to not ruin the grace she was accomplishing. at the bottom, harmony lifted her dress a bit until she stopped towards the middle of the room. her attention wandered to serenity and logan dancing, she chuckled slightly as it looked like logan did most of the work. she hoped kavic knew how to dance or they'd look like idiots. but hey, this is to have fun! harmony stood, peering around every few seconds as she searched for anyone she might know.

&& I Gotta Stop My Mind
Kavic had gotten swept into the main hall, distracted for the moment from the amazing decorations, the literal buckets of butterbeer and other liquids he would probably be investigating later in the night, and the food… oh the food. Plates and plates of the stuff, heaped on tables. But he didn’t notice any of it, not really (well, he noticed the smell of the food, but that’s part of being a boy and therefore treated as a given.) He was intent on figuring out where his date was.
Does it make any sense to have a masked ball? He wondered idly, grabbing a glass of some amber liquid from a passing student, ignoring the sputtered, “Hey!”, You know, the kind where nobody can tell anybody apart? He took a drink from the stolen glass and coughed, startled at the burning in his throat. Someone snuck something in. He thought wryly, taking another drink (carefully this time). Resolved not to get drunk off his feet, he had agreed to be here after all, he placed the now half empty glass on the table nearest to him and walked away, back into the crowd, avoiding the milling students.
Resisting the urge to straighten out the crisp white shirt underneath the tight black vest and somewhat looser black jacket, (in trying to straighten it, he knew he’d just get it messed up) he made his way back to the doors, that had to be a better place to find Harmony. At least the flow of students was constricted to the width of the door frame, not the width of the great hall. He found a spot where it was unlikely he’d get pushed out, and that afforded him a view of everyone coming in. Again, he fought the familiar habit of messing with his hair or tugging on his shirt cuffs, opting instead to tug on the small golden cross charm that hung around his neck. He’d worn every day since his first year and hadn’t thought to take it off tonight. He scanned the room again; he could see other people he knew, but not Harmony… Remus and Kyndrick were together which drew a surprised whistle. He didn’t know Remus had it in him. Hayden and Serenity were dancing, but Serenity looked absolutely terrified, but Hayden was steering her perfectly, as always. He felt suddenly panicked. Do I remember all those dancing lessons from when I was a kid? He thought, thinking back. He could remember the basics of it enough… hopefully he wouldn’t be running them into anyone else…. That could lead to awkwardness. He laughed dryly to himself, that was a very easy scenario to visualize… which made him all the more determined not to do it.

she was getting tired of the silver mask, it was causing her face (especially around her eyes) to be quite itchy. and that didn't feel so good. harmony strained her eyes, attempting to spot kavick but had no such luck. she inched back towards the big doors, tripping over...well something. the mask flew off, hit a guy in the head (who was carrying a tray of butterbeer), the tray flew across the room and splattered the unsuspecting people with butterbeer. angry faces turned towards her and harmony ducked her head to hide her laughter. "oops." was all she could say as harmony stood back up slowly. she was sure that man who had dropped the tray was irked, and hurried towards the door.
harmony absentmindedly walked, her gaze searching around the room for the mask....it was gone. oh well... now kavick would find her easier and that stupid itching sensation would go away. she felt herself bump into someone and jumped back quickly. it was kavick, finally! "sorry." harmony muttered with a dry laugh, straitening up. she felt vitorious to have finally found her date. harmony tossed a glance and saw some people cleaning up the spilled tray of butterbeer and smirk to herself. "did you see when i tripped?" harmony said with a wry grin.

Post by Lucius Malfoy on Dec 11, 2008 2:53:59 GMT
Lucius sighed loudly as he leaned against the door frame of the Great Hall and crossed his arms over his chest. He'd been standing in the entrance hall, fully dressed in his best tuxedo, for at least fifteen minutes. He watched miserably as couple after couple walked into the great hall. Some he recognized as his dorm mates, who all waved to him as they passed. Several times he almost turned around and went back to the dungeons, but decided against it. He'd promised Aphrodite a wonderful Christmas Eve, which he had every intension of giving her, just as soon as she showed up.
Rolling his eyes at a couple of fourth-year Hufflepuffs making out at a corner table, Lucius straightened up and made his way over to the full-length mirror. He sighed again as he saw his reflection in the glass. Same old black dress robes. Same old black cloth mask that only covered the area around his eyes. 'I wore this to Father's charity banquet last year,' he said to himself, straightening his bow tie. 'Why couldn't this have been a costume party?' Not that Lucius really wanted to make a fool out of himself, but at least it would have been a little more entertaining.

Haley slowly walked down the marble staircase and into the entrance hall, careful not to step on her dress having just got it the way she liked. Originally the dress was an ugly shade of orange and had a large tear in the side due to a run in with a certain Slytherin in Gladrags. Thanks to a few well-placed charms, the dress now a beautiful pale green. It had one strap that went around Haley's neck. The skirt reached the floor, and there were tiny silver beads on the bust. 'Everybody's going to think I'm a Slytherin,' she thought, a smile appearing on her face as she approached the doors into the Great Hall. In truth, aside from actually liking her color choices, Haley had done it for Nathan's sake. Knowing her husband would appreciate her wearing his house colors.
The hall was already packed when Haley arrived. She made her way to the refreshments table and scanned the room, looking for Nathan. When she couldn't spot him in the crowds, she looked again, this time for her friends and housemates, Peyton and Brooke. Again, no luck. Sighing, she turned her attention to the punch bowl, taking sips while nervously twirling her brown hair between her fingers.
